Literature Text

The late sunlight glints off your window,
Like a flame on the darkest of nights,
Your hand is all that I see of you,
As it moves across paper and writes.

The leaves on your walk rustle faintly,
And I hear the creak of your door,
I already know your decision,
That for you here there is nothing more.

The wind blows your long hair away,
Revealing your shadow of a face,
I now see the beauty of that shadow,
That shadow that I did abase.

You lift your sad face towards the moonlight,
With your feet at the edge of the drop,
You open your eyes but don’t see me,
Somehow, I can’t tell you to stop.

You take a deep breath and look downwards,
To the buildings and people and trees,
As you silently struggle within yourself,
A lone tear flies away on the breeze.

Your shining eyes close for the last time,
You take a step forward, then pause,
I hope you have changed your mind,
But I don’t think that that is your cause.

“I know you’re there,” you whisper,
“Don’t try to stop me, please.
It’s something that I have to do,
Respect my wishes and leave.”

I see your body curve in the air,
As you jump off the edge of your life,
I stand still in horrified silence,
And realization cuts like a knife.

I rush to the edge of the building,
My eyes close as your form hits the ground,
I’m taking stairs ten at a time,
But I don’t seem to be going down.

Finally I burst open the door,
Your crumpled figure is right at my feet,
I kneel down, grasping it limply,
I can barely hear your heartbeat.

Your eyelids flicker for a moment,
Weak words come out of your mouth,
“I love you,” you say as I hold you,
“You’re the one who I can’t live without.”

You’re dead in my arms the next moment,
I shed tears of frustration and grief,
“I’ve always loved you,” I choke,
To say it somehow brings relief.

I’m walking through the cemetery,
The whole place shines in the sunset,
I lay flowers across your gravestone,
So you know that I’ll never forget.
I wasn't sure if I should post this on here, I don't know why.

This is pretty dark for me. I just thought of one line of it, and this wasn't even what it was supposed to be about, but I kind of like it. Comments are appreciated. Also, if you have any other ideas for a title, that could be good.

Notes:
This is meant to be from the point of view of a boy, even though I'm a girl.
This is not based on any real event that I know of.

I love the images that this poem creates. Nice job, again. :D
